2002 Rising Star Award


The award is presented in honor of past chapter member Carolyn Terhune, AWC president from 1978 to 1980, and recognizes a member with less than two years chapter membership for outstanding involvement in the organization.

Shannon Miller was awarded the Topeka Professional Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) Rising Star Award for 2002.

The award is presented in honor of past chapter member Carolyn Terhune, AWC president from 1978 to 1980, and recognizes a member with less than two years chapter membership for outstanding involvement in the organization.

Miller joined AWC in November 2000. She was nominated for her leadership skills and dedication to making the local chapter a success. According to the nominations, she not only has done her portion of programming, but she also has been a great support to other board issues and is working to help AWC grow and succeed. Miller has served as Vice President of Programming and is currently serving as Vice President of Finance.

Miller is a Communications Specialist at Stormont-Vail HealthCare since June 2001 and is involved in event planning, graphic design, writing, special projects and community relations.
Miller and her husband, Gary, have a daughter, Kacee, and are expecting a second child in April.
