2007 Rising Star Award


The award is presented in honor of past chapter member Carolyn Terhune, AWC president from 1978 to 1980, and recognizes a member with less than two years chapter membership for outstanding involvement in the organization.

Kerrice Mapes was awarded the Topeka Professional Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) Rising Star Award for 2007.

Mapes is owner of seveneightfive magazine and Marketing Specialist for Topeka Family Service and Guidance Center.

She served as the AWC VP-Administration in 2006-07 and additionally accepted the position of Vice President of Publicity and Communications early in the current term of office. She established a g-mail account for electronic communications and designed attractive web graphics to promote our events, enlivening interest in the organization.

Mapes has been enthusiastic in promoting membership in AWC and helped organize a spring membership drive, arranging for an After Hours social at Row House Restaurant in February,orchestrating a free dinner give-away for two at the restaurant as an incentive for new members who joined AWC between February and early May..

Mapes is President Elect for the Topeka chapter.
