2008 Rising Star Award

The award is presented in honor of past chapter member Carolyn Terhune, AWC president from 1978 to 1980, and recognizes a member with less than two years chapter membership for outstanding involvement in the organization.

Carrie Jo Gros, 2008 Rising Start Award recipient

Carrie Jo Gros was awarded the Topeka Professional Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) Rising Star Award for 2008.
Gros currently works in National Advertising at WIBW and joined AWC in 2007. Just a few short months after joining the organization, Gros joined the AWC Board as VP of Administration. She has done a great job of taking accurate minutes at the board meetings and submitting them for distribution to the board. This has helped the board stay on top of what they needed to be doing.
Another big thing that Gros helped with this year was our first Bierock Fundraiser! Gros suggested selling Bierocks to raise money for our annual scholarship to a Washburn student, to help us cover the cost of our evening social events, and to provide a stipend for a board member to go to the National convention each year. Thanks to her organization and distribution of the Bierocks, this fundraiser was very successful.
Gros will be taking over as President-elect on the AWC Board for the 2008-09 term, which starts June 1.
