2007 Student Scholarship

The Topeka Professional Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) has awarded its annual scholarship to Alicia Phillips. Phillips is from Pratt, Kan., and is attending Washburn University. She is studying Mass Media with an emphasis on advertising. Her minor is business.

Phillips has received an Associate’s Degree in telecommunications from Hutchinson Community College. While attending Washburn, Phillips is a competitor on the nationally ranked Washburn Debate squad, Vice President of Washburn’s Advertising Club called Ad Astra, a committee member on Washburn’s Campus Activities Board, a Washburn Residential Council member, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and is involved in many other activities. She has won several medals during debate tournaments, is on the Dean’s list, and was a Collegiate All-American Scholar.

Topeka AWC is proud to award this year’s scholarship to Phillips. The organization presented her with a certificate and scholarship check during its April 16, 2007 membership meeting at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 S.W. 10th Street, in Topeka.This scholarship is awarded annually to a Washburn University student who shows exemplary work in a communications related field.
