The award is presented in memory of past chapter member Louise Roote, a former editor at Capper’s Weekly and AWC member, and recognizes a member with more than two years chapter membership for outstanding involvement in the organization.

Cindy Daugherty was awarded the Topeka Professional Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) Vanguard Award for 2002.

The award is presented in memory of past chapter member Louise Roote, a former editor at Capper’s Weekly and AWC member, and recognizes a member with more than two years chapter membership for outstanding involvement in the organization.

Daugherty joined AWC in April 1994. According to the nominations, she was nominated for her outstanding leadership and dedication to the organization for the past several years. She recently co-chaired the group’s annual fund raiser, Press the Press, and has many innovative ideas to take AWC successfully into the future. She has held numerous AWC board and committee positions and is currently serving as President of the organization.

Daugherty has been the Assistant Director of University Relations at Washburn University for three years. She also is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Public Relations Society of Topeka.

Daugherty and her husband, Alan, reside in Topeka and have two step-daughters, Krystal and Kyla.
