Vanguard Award 2003/National Chapter Star Award

The award is presented in memory of past chapter member Louise Roote, a former editor at Capper’s Weekly and AWC member, and recognizes a member with more than two years chapter membership for outstanding involvement in the organization.

Lyila Devlin was awarded the Topeka Professional Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) Vanguard Award for 2003.

Devlin joined AWC in September 2000 while a student at Washburn University, then became a professional member in January 2002 and served as Hospitality Chairperson. According to the nominations, Devlin stepped up to the plate to help the organization and took over as President Elect this spring. Devlin became President of the Topeka AWC chapter in June. She also has done an excellent job of helping the Topeka chapter by organizing the monthly luncheons and regularly attending membership and board meetings.

She is the Coordinator of the Children’s Miracle Network at St. Francis Health Center. Devlin is responsible for organizing events and fund raisers throughout northeast Kansas to raise funds to assist seriously ill children with medical needs.

Devlin resides in Topeka.
